Position Overview
The Senior Accounting Manager will play a key leadership role in overseeing financial operations across a diverse property portfolio. This individual will supervise a team and work closely with two Property Accounting Managers, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all property management accounting functions. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role will also contribute to financial planning, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all property-level accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, rent processing, and monthly financial reporting.
Review and approve financial statements, bank reconciliations, and variance analyses prepared by Property Accounting Managers.
Oversee the calculation, billing, and reconciliation of NNN charges and other tenant-related financial obligations.
Support Property Accounting Managers with tenant communications regarding rent escalations, lease compliance, delinquencies, and reconciliations.
Partner with the Property Management team to ensure accounting supports operational goals.
Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including property tax filings and escrow management.
Lead the annual budgeting process, aligning projections with historical data and operational goals.
Analyze financial data and provide insights to leadership on performance trends, risks, and opportunities.
Train, mentor, and develop Property Accounting Managers to strengthen team performance and collaboration.
Implement and refine accounting policies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Optimize the use of accounting systems (e.G., MRI, Doorloop, or similar platforms) to enhance reporting and operational capabilities.
Represent the accounting team in audits and regulatory reviews.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in property or real estate accounting.
Strong working knowledge of MRI and/or Doorloop (or comparable property management software).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team management skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication skills for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Texas Real Estate License is a plus, but not required.
