Accounting Manager

Overview
Responsible for managing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and government contract accounting in a regulated environment. This role ensures accurate financial records, supports indirect rate structures, maintains job cost integrity, and prepares audit-ready documentation. Partners cross-functionally to ensure alignment with GAAP, FAR, and CAS.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Close
  • Manage general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, billing, and cash applications
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare/review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules
  • Maintain balance sheet accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Support internal financial reporting

Government Contracting & Job Costing
  • Maintain job cost accounting across multiple contract types
  • Ensure compliant cost accumulation per FAR and CAS
  • Support indirect rate calculations, monitoring, and true-ups
  • Assist with incurred cost submissions and audit support
  • Reconcile project and general ledgers;support EAC processes
  • Monitor Limitation of Cost/Funds requirements

Compliance, Audit & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and internal policies
  • Support audit requests and maintain audit-ready documentation
  • Coordinate tax reporting with external advisors (income, franchise, sales/use)
  • Support tax provisions, filings, and compliance calendar
  • Improve accounting policies, procedures, and data integrity

Systems & Process Improvement
  • Support ERP systems (e.G., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar)
  • Improve workflows, reporting efficiency, and internal controls
  • Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and automation initiatives


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in government contracting/defense environment
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • General ledger and financial close
    • Job cost accounting and project reporting
    • Indirect rate structures and cost pools
    • FAR Part 31 cost principles
    • Audit support and documentation
  • Experience in mid-sized government contractor environment ($30M+ revenue)
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented approach


Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CMA (or in progress)
  • Experience with incurred cost submissions and audits
  • Familiarity with EAC forecasting and ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Exposure to forward pricing rate proposals

Compensation
Base salary: $110, 000 –$150, 000
