Electrical Construction Division Manager Role and Responsibilities

 

The Electrical Construction Division Manager, EECDM, has overall responsibility and accountability for the performance of the Construction Division. In alignment with and in support of the company's mission and culture, the ECDM ensures each project has the plans, processes, and resources to be successful, as defined by performance metrics in the areas of Cost, Quality and Safety. The ECDM reports directly to the General Manager.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop the strategic and tactical plans to deliver the performance metrics for the Construction Division as agreed to, between the General Manager and ECDM
  • Accountable for the direction and performance of $40MM budget and 120+ employees including 10-15 PM’S and APM’s and 10-20 Foreman
  • Assess, identify and mitigate risks associated with the strategy and tactical plans, to enable the outcome intended
  • Attract, retain and develop the people resources to enable the Division performance, in partnership with the Human Resources staff
  • Ensure processes for division staff are in place and effective as they relate to project management essentials such as resource loading, task scheduling, project supervision, SOV creation, billing, forecasting or projecting costs and duration, material accountability, invoice approval and project close-out
  • Cultivate relationships with business partners such and General Contractors, Subcontractors, vendors and suppliers in support of the division strategy and goals
  • Understand and interpret contracts between General Contractors and Subcontractors relative to project scope, cost and schedule, in order to minimize risk to the Division and the company in general
  • Proactively monitor the performance of the projects and project managers within the division to best ensure the planned outcomes
  • Develop and maintain an effective Quality Control/Assurance Program for the Construction Division that delivers on the quality metrics defined in alignment with the General Manager
  • Collaborate with Procurement / Purchasing to leverage purchasing power and reduce cost to the projects while reducing lead times
  • Hold self and team accountable for performance
  • Ensure the Construction Division projects are completed on time, within budget, and quality installation

 

Desired Skills:
  • BS/BA degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in Commercial Construction or related field, overseeing projects and personnel
  • 5-10 years as a Senior Project Manager, accountable for other PM’s and their performance
  • 7-10 years of experience as a project manager with projects ranging from $200k through $10MM
  • 5-10 years of experience Estimating Commercial Electrical construction projects
  • PMP Certification from accredited institution
  • High-level leadership skills including problem resolution, conflict resolution, collaboration and performance management processes
  • Excellent communication and management skills
  • Experienced in mitigating risk on projects
  • Strong ability to prioritize, multi-task and deliver results on time and on budget
  • Proficient in MS Suite products specifically, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
