Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Manage the accurate closing process for one or more business units within AFL.
  • Communicate financial results clearly and effectively to the management team, including explanations of variances compared to plan or historical results.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the business environment and provide insights on changes related to volume and contribution margin.
  • Provide detailed analysis of revenues and margins by customer, product category, and/or project.
  • Analyze spending variations by department and account.
  • Assist in cost reduction efforts through financial analysis.
  • Where applicable, maintain accurate standard costs to satisfy absorption and lower-of-cost testing.
  • Where applicable, calculate and analyze revenue using percentage of completion accounting.
  • Perform physical inventory and fixed asset reconciliations annually or as required by organizational or corporate guidelines.
  • Assist in cycle counting and inventory sampling on a quarterly basis to improve inventory accuracy. Conduct root cause analysis and training when inventory variances are identified.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director to improve the control environment by self-assessing key controls within the business unit (e.G., purchasing, inventory control, receiving, shipping).
  • Support audit preparation to ensure timely delivery and response to audit inquiries.
  • Work with the Finance Director to minimize SUD adjustments related to audit findings (aiming for no required audit adjustments).
  • Provide monthly and semi-annual forecasts and explain forecast variances to business leaders.

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of experience in an analytical role within manufacturing and/or service environments.
  • CPA or MBA is a plus.
  • Experience in financial close processes, inventory costing, cash and payables, general ledger expertise, audit, and control environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access Database).
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on process improvements.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, Microsoft Great Plains) and the ability to query and extract information from multiple data sources.
  • Spanish proficiency required.

Working Conditions
  • Fast-paced, highly visible role in a typical office environment.
  • Some travel required.
