Job Title:   Plant Accounting Manager

Reports to:  General Manager

Location: Luverne, Minnesota

About the role:

Seeking a Plant Accounting Manager who will be responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, P&L reporting, advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs as well as trends and anomalies, LCFS related accounting work and preparation of a variety of related budget reports.

 

Who you are:
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports for the plant.
  • Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Work with Operations leader and General Manager to develop financial plant metrics and KPIs that will be used to measure the plant’ s performance.
  • Work with General Manager to produce the annual plant budget and forecasts; reports significant budget variances to management.
  • Work collaboratively with corporate accounting and finance teams to ensure alignment.
  • Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Gather and compiles cost information and maintains database concerning expenses.
  • Work with Sustainability Team to maintain and record transactions related to RINS and LCFS credits, including preparation of reports to applicable agencies.
  • Oversee the various inventory, record keeping, information gathering, documents and reports for internal use and for regulatory agencies requirements.
  • Develop systems and procedures for accumulation systems and/or cost accounting functions.
  • Determine fixed costs such as salaries, rent, and insurance.
  • Predict, plan, and record variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
  • Track budget vs. Actual for capital purchases and determine if vendors are delivering according to agreed upon timelines.
  • Review and analyze actual costs to identify inaccuracies and opportunities.
  • Prepare necessary departmental and company-wide budgeting reports.
  • Review, analyze, and reports actual profit margins.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closings.
  • Determine and recommend cost-effective solutions.
  • Prepare Project Management reports for major equipment purchases.
  • Manage purchasing of raw materials and sales of finished products in collaboration with General Manager and Commercial Team
  • Oversee contractual agreements associated with purchases and sales, including land lease and digestor fuel supply agreements.
  • Oversee all hedging transactions between the plant and CBOT futures representatives and monitor positions as applicable.
  • Manage CBOT trades to offset company risks associated with various contracts as applicable.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of inventories.
  • Make recommendations to Corporate Accounting for developing accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Preparing and delivering information in a concise, accurate and professionally written format.
  • Prepare and present information in an informal setting.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Analyze and develop solutions to problems independently and as a team.
  • Self-starter, able to identify errors or areas for improvement, provide recommendations and follow through to completion.
  • Supplies, purchasing and interaction with vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with NetSuite.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.

 

Requirements and Experience
  • Bachelor’ s Degree in accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Certified Management Accountant or Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in accounting roles with increasing responsibility.
  • At least two years of experience in cost accounting required.
  • At least one year of experience with commodities pricing.
