Overview:
A leading advanced metal manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Principal Process Engineer to provide technical leadership for complex production operations. This role will focus on developing, scaling, and continuously improving processes for powder production, powder metallurgy, and metal finishing in a high-tech manufacturing environment. The Principal Process Engineer will oversee process startup, ensure consistent quality, and drive innovation on the factory floor. In addition, this position will mentor and guide a team of process engineers, fostering technical growth and operational excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical direction for manufacturing processes, including powder production, pressing and sintering, machining, and surface treatment.
- Lead cross-functional teams in commissioning, validating, and optimizing manufacturing systems.
- Collaborate with quality teams to ensure successful process validation and compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor and analyze KPIs to identify challenges and drive process improvements.
- Mentor and manage a team of process engineers, building a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues spanning raw material production through to finished products.
- Oversee and execute continuous improvement projects to enhance efficiency, yield, and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of process engineering or engineering leadership experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience managing or mentoring engineering teams.
- Deep technical expertise in powder metallurgy, powder production, and/or metal finishing processes.
- Strong knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) with proven implementation experience.
- Hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and operation of material manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information to varied audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Advanced degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Specialized knowledge in the manufacturing of sintered rare earth magnets.
- Proficiency with FMEA, RCA, and other problem-solving methodologies.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
