Overview:
A growing advanced metal manufacturing organization is seeking a Process Engineer to support the development and operation of a new facility dedicated to producing metals, alloys, and magnets. This role will focus on molten salt electrolysis, the first step in the production process, while also contributing to related downstream processes such as strip casting and metallic powder milling. The position requires a hands-on engineer who can partner with operations, quality, EHS, and maintenance teams to ensure efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in equipment specification, design reviews, and commissioning of electrolysis systems.
- Provide technical support and training for electrolysis operators and technicians.
- Contribute to EHS risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and regulatory compliance efforts.
- Evaluate raw materials and assess their impact on performance and product quality.
- Track KPIs to ensure high yield, consistent quality, and minimal EHS impacts.
- Oversee quality control procedures and ensure their effective application.
- Lead and support initiatives to stabilize and optimize plant operations.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues within molten salt electrolysis and related subprocesses.
- Participate in cost reduction and waste elimination initiatives.
- Support technology development projects to advance electrolysis processes.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation of findings.
- Assist with intellectual property documentation and patent-related activities.
- Collaborate with procurement, vendors, operators, and cross-functional teams.
- Perform other related engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrochemistry with large-scale industrial processes.
- Strong background in collecting and analyzing process control data (SPC).
- Hands-on experience with problem-solving methodologies (FMEA, A3, 8D, RCA).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (for site operations).
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- In-depth technical knowledge of molten salt electrolysis and electrochemistry.
- Familiarity with downstream processes such as alloying, casting, and powder processing.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Ability to influence teams at all levels, from operators to management.
- Background in process control and programming, with exposure to tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, CFD, MATLAB, Python, Minitab, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
