Job Description
Job Title: RNG Plant Operator/Maintainer/Anaerobic Digester Operator
Reports to: RNG Operations Manager
Location: Doon, Iowa
About the role:
This role will be responsible for the daily operation and oversight of the anaerobic digestion facility. The Plant Operator monitors all activity with the digester and RNG gas upgrade station. This position encompasses daily plant operations including inspecting, testing, and documenting plant performance, material status, and related activities.
Who you are:
- Monitor the operation of the plant s pumps, motors, and other equipment; read gauges, dials, and other instrumentation; maintain and update accurate logs of plant operations.
- Interact regularly with farm staff and vendor staff.
- Maintain logs of instrument readings, test results, and shift production
- Set or adjust machine controls to regulate conditions such as material flow, temperature, and pressure.
- Collect various sand separator and digester samples for laboratory tests; perform some laboratory analysis.
- Perform control tests to determine if the plant is operating correctly and effectively; make necessary adjustments to maintain biological balances and flow requirements; adjust plant equipment to obtain maximum efficiency and results
- Clean and inspect machines and equipment for hazards, operating efficiency, malfunctions, wear, and leaks.
- Perform necessary preventative maintenance.
- Prepare daily data sheet; compile reports; input data into computer system.
- Maintain all treatment facility buildings and grounds, keeping the site clean and always organized
- Monitor alarms and assist in corrective action.
Requirements and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is required. Higher education is preferred.
- Must be able to learn standard principles of biology, chemistry, and mathematics.
- Must have high mechanical aptitude and experience working with machines and reading gauges, dials, and indicators.
- Familiarity with lab equipment and procedures is a plus.
- Must be physically able to repeatedly lift, climb ladders, and endure strenuous physical activity.
- Must have a valid driver s license.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to handle stressful situations.
- Must be a self-starter, able to recognize and reconcile issues as they arise at the plant.
Physical Requirements
- This is a physical job, requiring significant stamina and mobility to work with and around motorized equipment. Must be able to lift, stand, sit, walk, bend, reach, grasp, climb, push/pull, and work at heights up to 20 feet and in confined spaces. May be required to move up to 80 pounds on occasion.
- Must have visual acuity, good hearing activity, and ability to communicate clearly and quickly in person and via telephone
- Subject to pre-employment, periodic and random drug testing
- Must be able to respond quickly to signals to avoid injury or equipment issues.
- Must have valid driver s license and able to drive in all conditions
- Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Must be aware of and follow all safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Will be exposed to animal manure and associated odors.
- Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during course of work activities, including heat, snow, and inclement weather.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, flexible hours, and holidays as required.
- Must be available for scheduled 24/7 on call.
- Must be willing to travel to other sites as needed.
- Will need to communicate with dairy personnel and keep them updated on repairs or issues that affect their scope of work.
