Role Overview
The Lead Estimator is responsible for planning, preparing, and completing cost budgets, estimates, and bid package submittal documents for assigned projects. This role may oversee and delegate work to a team of estimating resources to develop comprehensive pricing packages for various opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure all team members work in a safe environment.
  • Review bid packages, including specifications, drawings, and other documentation;attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope and requirements.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, cost budgets, and estimates from project inception through bid submission.
  • Identify critical project elements that may impact competitive pricing.
  • Evaluate potential value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs.
  • Provide leadership to assigned estimating personnel and resources supporting large RFPs.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and data to support estimates.
  • Develop installation unit costs and labor productivity targets based on projected site conditions and historical data.
  • Compile detailed material, equipment, and labor requirements;coordinate with suppliers and vendors for pricing and availability.
  • Review subcontractor quotes and proposals for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist in drafting proposal letters and other components of a complete response package.
  • Conduct detailed pre-bid and post-award reviews with internal teams, including project management, to ensure scope clarity and successful project transitions.

Requirements for Success
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and interpret complex design drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard arithmetic and formulas used in estimating.
  • Experience mentoring less-experienced team members.
  • Ability to understand and meet client needs, expectations, and requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and industry-specific platforms (e.G., Bluebeam, Procore, AutoDesk).
  • Familiarity with modern estimating software (e.G., Accubid, McCormick).
  • Experience with CAD, Revit, or other 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Ability to work under deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting professionally with all levels of staff, vendors, and clients.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with high motivation;able to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent progressive industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’experience estimating large-scale structured cabling and low voltage system projects.
  • Experience developing detailed and accurate cost budgets and estimates for data center or IT infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience estimating projects under various contracting methods, including Lump Sum / Fixed Price, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Unit Price / Rate, and Design-Build.

Preferred Certifications
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • BICSI Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)
  • AASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)
  • AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP)

Supervisory Responsibility
  • This role may oversee assigned estimating resources based on project needs.

Work Location and Travel
  • Remote/Hybrid with up to 10% travel.

  • Ensure sensitive project information is handled appropriately.
  • Report any security or privacy incidents promptly.
